The construction process – which was far from rapid – went almost unnoticed, although work was carried out practically in the middle of the city, writes Onliner.by.

A new underpass, designed to connect the "banks" of Arloŭskaya Street, was promised last spring. Back then, builders (metro builders!) immediately dug three pits on both sides of the road: a starting pit, a working pit, and a receiving pit.

For an inexperienced person, these pits differed little from those usually made during the construction of new metro stations: iron belts and pipe braces appeared in the "excavations."

However, the chain of austere pits was just the beginning of a great work.

Specialists had to build a full-fledged underpass more than 37 meters long. And this was done without stopping traffic on the surface.

All work was carried out strictly underground. In essence, a mini-metro tunnel was dug, only without "Alesya" or "Maria" and for pedestrian needs.

"First, in the working pit, a U-shaped dome was created using horizontal drilling: along the entire length of the underpass, which is 37 meters, 28 metal pipes were successively pressed in, forming a protective screen. Then, the phased excavation of soil and installation of metal frames began. When all 30 frames took their designed position, the structure of the underpass was clad with metal sheets – the tunnel "dressed" in a metal protective "shirt." Next, the space between the dome of pipes and the frame structure was filled with concrete," — described the stages of work at "Minskbud."

Sounds complicated. But how effective it is: there wasn't a single day when Arloŭskaya "stopped" due to such a large-scale and complex construction.

Approximately a year later, the underpass is almost ready. The same pits have been filled. The entrance groups are already decorated with glass and tiles. Specialists are adding decor – perforated metal plates with ornaments. Elevators are being prepared for launch.

By all accounts, only a few days remain until the underpass becomes accessible to everyone.

"This is the second underpass that metro builders are constructing without changing the traffic scheme. The first project was successfully implemented in 8 months instead of the normative 15 at the intersection of Independence Ave. with Turaŭskaha and Kalinoŭskaha streets. The experience was recommended for dissemination, and here's the result!" — "Minskbud" does not hide its pride.
