In Chausy, the first automatic pedestrian alert system at a crosswalk in Belarus is being tested

Testing of a domestic "smart" crosswalk has begun in Belarus. The pilot project has been implemented at the entrance to Chausy (Mogilev region). Vladislav Bardzilovsky, a police lieutenant colonel, told the publication "Na Strazhy" about how the new technology works.

The main feature of the domestic development is the ability to recognize a person's approach in real time and instantly create maximum visibility for them, says Bardzilovsky.

With the onset of darkness, the system switches to standby mode, dimly illuminating the crosswalk area. However, as soon as motion sensors detect a pedestrian, an alert is triggered: additional powerful spotlights turn on, a yellow light starts flashing, and the "Attention, Pedestrian!" sign illuminates. The system emits an audible signal and continues intensive illumination for another 30 seconds after the person has left the roadway.

The choice of this particular location for testing is due to the increased flow of freight transport after the reconstruction of the highway.

If the experiment in Chausy is deemed successful, such "smart" crossings will appear on the main highways of the country, in particular on the M4 Minsk — Mogilev and M5 Minsk — Gomel expressways, where the risk of nighttime collisions due to high vehicle speeds remains high.
