80% of Kharkiv and the region left without electricity after Russian attack

The strike was carried out by drones, as well as with the help of the «Tornado-S» multiple launch rocket system.

Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, reported that as a result of a combined Russian strike, more than 80% of the region, including the regional center, was left without electricity.

«Our energy infrastructure came under enemy strikes — there is quite serious damage,» Syniehubov said.

According to him, the strike was carried out with the help of the «Tornado-S» multiple launch rocket system, as well as drones.

«We understand that part of Kharkiv is without electricity supply, emergency shutdown schedules have also been applied in the region. We are currently working almost around the clock to promptly eliminate the consequences and restore the damaged energy infrastructure,» Syniehubov noted.

According to city mayor Ihor Terekhov, the main target of the attack was the energy infrastructure. He described the damage as very severe, causing power outages in almost all districts of the city.

One of the missiles hit the area of a sports school near residential buildings — 16 multi-apartment buildings were damaged (roofs were broken, windows shattered).

In addition to the sports school, the building of another school suffered serious destruction. Among the injured is a security guard of the educational institution.

Business facilities and transport infrastructure also came under attack.

In recent weeks, Russian forces have been carrying out massive strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities. Previously, Kyiv was subjected to the most intense shelling, where many residential buildings were left without electricity and heating.

Currently, the air temperature in Kharkiv has dropped to minus 13 degrees Celsius.
