Trump Declares New Trade War on Europe

Duties on European cars will increase to 25%.

US President Donald Trump announced on his social media about a radical increase in tariffs on imported cars and trucks from the European Union. According to him, this decision is a response to Brussels' failure to comply with previously reached trade agreements.

In his message, Donald Trump emphasized that starting next week, duties on European vehicles entering the United States will be increased to 25%.

The American leader noted that the only way for European manufacturers to avoid these payments is to move production directly to the territory of the USA. Trump stated that if cars are produced in American factories, the tariff rate will be zero.

According to Trump, active construction of numerous factories for the production of passenger cars and trucks is currently underway in the US, with a record sum of over $100 billion invested. Trump is confident that these enterprises, staffed by American workers, will begin operation in the near future and will create an unprecedented situation in the history of the country's automotive industry.

This decision marks another stage in the tense trade relations between Washington and Brussels. The Trump administration traditionally uses tariff policy as an instrument of pressure to stimulate domestic production and reduce the trade deficit.

The introduction of 25% duties is expected to seriously impact European car manufacturers, for whom the American market is one of the key ones. What the EU's response will be is unknown.
