The US needs to put more pressure on Russia, not Ukraine, to end the war, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"I think and believe that Americans truly want to end this war. I hope they will help us, but we need more pressure on Russia, not on me," Zelenskyy said in an interview with Politico. According to him, Ukrainians are tired of military actions that have been going on for more than four years, but they are not ready to accept Russia's demands to surrender Donbas.
The Ukrainian leader also admitted that US President Donald Trump is right when he says he "hates" Vladimir Putin. But, as Zelenskyy noted, the task of achieving peace is above emotions and his personal attitude towards the Russian president.
"Nobody says that anyone will be friends with each other. No friendship. He tried to occupy us. We responded, and he lost many servicemen. Therefore, such an attitude is understandable, but we need peace. Peace is not an emotional thing. Hatred is emotion. It's not about personal attitude. It's not about personalities," the Ukrainian president explained.
He added that a peace treaty "will give people the opportunity to live."
