At the World Cup, Qatar snatched a draw against Switzerland in the final minutes of the match
The Qatar national team only avoided defeat at the last moment in their opening Group B match at the 2026 World Cup in San Francisco. The encounter against Switzerland ended with a score of 1:1.

Switzerland took the lead in the 17th minute. Breel Embolo converted a penalty, awarded after a foul by Qatar's goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada on Remo Freuler.
After scoring, Murat Yakin's team long held the advantage and was close to victory, but couldn't score a second goal.
Qatar equalized at the very end of the match. In the 5th minute of added time, Boualem Khoukhi leveled the score and earned his team their first point in the tournament.
Thus, after two matches in Group B, all four teams here have one point each. Earlier, the national teams of Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina also drew, and with the same score — 1:1.
