The US and Iran, along with a group of regional mediators, are discussing the terms of a potential 45-day ceasefire that could lead to an end to the war. Axios writes about this, citing four sources from the US, Israel, and several other countries.
According to the publication's interlocutors, the chances of reaching a partial agreement are small, but this is the "last attempt" and the only chance to prevent a sharp escalation of the war, the article notes.
The US and Israel have a plan ready for a campaign to bomb Iran's energy facilities.
Donald Trump extended the ultimatum to give one last chance to reach an agreement, sources claim. Negotiations, according to Axios, are ongoing through mediators from Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey, as well as through correspondence between the US President's special envoy, Steve Whitkoff, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.
According to one US official, Washington has submitted several proposals to Tehran in recent days, but none of them has been accepted so far.
According to Axios, the agreement involves two stages. The first provides for a possible 45-day ceasefire. During this period, the final terms for ending the military conflict are planned to be discussed. At the same time, mediators believe that a full opening of the Strait of Hormuz and a resolution of the issue of Iran's enriched uranium can only be achieved within the framework of a final agreement.
Currently, mediators are trying to understand whether Iran is ready to take at least partial steps on these issues in the first stage of the agreement. They informed Tehran that the next 48 hours are the last chance to reach an agreement and prevent large-scale destruction.
At the same time, officials of the Islamic Republic made it clear that they do not want to find themselves in a situation where an agreement exists only on paper.
