Trump ordered preparations for a long blockade of the Strait of Hormuz

This strategy could mean the war entering a protracted phase. This will lead to a shortage of oil and fertilizer supplies on the market, which benefits their American producers and Russia.

U.S. President Donald Trump has instructed the U.S. Navy to prepare for a prolonged blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, writes WSJ.

Washington seeks to maximize economic pressure on Tehran as the war enters its third month. This strategy means the war will transition into a protracted phase. Although direct hostilities may cease, the stability of navigation in the region remains highly uncertain.

The U.S. plans to block all Iranian oil and deprive Tehran of revenues from its sale. In turn, Iran also keeps the strait closed to most other cargo. As a result, the global energy market is in a state of uncertainty.

Earlier, the U.S. President stated that Iran had already appealed to the U.S. to stop the naval blockade. Trump wrote on the Truth Social network that Tehran wants to open the waterway "as soon as possible, as they try to sort out their leadership situation." The U.S. President also added that, according to the Iranians themselves, the country is in a "state of collapse."
