Belarusian detained in Kyiv, suspected of coordinating targets for Russians
A citizen of Belarus has been detained in Kyiv, suspected of transmitting coordinates of energy facilities for Russian strikes. According to Ukrainian law enforcement, he acted through representatives of Belarusian security forces, writes Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.
According to a source from Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, the man is accused of treason in wartime. For this, he faces up to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment with property confiscation.
The investigation believes that the Belarusian voluntarily cooperated with Russia: he collected and transmitted information about the locations of Ukrainian military units and the security of energy facilities in Kyiv. He allegedly forwarded the data to an employee of the State Border Committee of Belarus, who was involved with the Telegram bot of the Belarusian border service.
From the case materials, it follows that the detainee managed to transmit the coordinates of a unit guarding one of Kyiv's thermal power plants. After the Russian shelling, he also informed his handler about the results of the strike and urged continued attacks.
On October 25, 2025, one of the TPPs (Thermal Power Plants) in Kyiv was indeed damaged as a result of a Russian strike, although some Russian media claimed its complete destruction.
Ukrainian investigators are now analyzing the detainee's phone conversations and correspondence to ascertain all the circumstances of the case.
