"Nobody returned". How the issue with dissatisfied workers from Uzbekistan in Belarus was resolved

"Not all employers are the same"

The agency representative emphasized that this was a pilot project with a simplified procedure. The agreement was concluded by the Committee on Labor, Employment and Social Protection of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the Migration Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan, and the hokimiyat (administration) of the Andijan region.

According to the official, after complaints on social media, the parties checked whether employers were complying with the terms of the employment contracts. As a result, all arising issues were allegedly settled.

"For citizens whose working conditions did not comply with contractual obligations, necessary measures have been taken, including their transfer to other employers who provide the working conditions and payment level stipulated by the agreement," the agency representative noted.

The interlocutor reported that none of this group has returned home yet. All who came are ultimately working in agriculture. She commented briefly on the dirty rooms that the workers showed in the video: "They have already been relocated. Not all employers are the same."

"They even assigned us a taxi"

The author of the video, in which workers complained about salaries of $500, later published a follow-up. He reported that as a result, they signed contracts for salaries of $700 with free accommodation and lunches. He asked for the first video to be removed, as he didn't expect it to spread so widely.

Other workers from Uzbekistan who arrived in Belarus also actively shared their impressions. Judging by their videos, there were many positive reviews. In a report on the Novopolotsk state channel "Zvyazda", one can see that they were housed in the dormitory of the Polymir plant.

Belarus awaits tractor drivers and carpenters

Going forward, it is planned that workers from Uzbekistan will continue to come to Belarus.

"Starting from September, it is planned to provide permanent employment in the Vitebsk region for 500 residents of the Andijan region monthly, a total of five thousand. For this, a representative office of the Migration Agency will be opened in the city of Vitebsk," says the website of the President of Uzbekistan.

The "Zerkalo" interlocutor added that there are also plans for employment in the manufacturing sector of Belarus. For example, on July 15, agency representatives visited the Minsk Automobile Plant, where 120 citizens of the Central Asian republic are already working.

According to the official, workers are expected in the fields of livestock farming, forestry, dairy and meat production, and construction. Among the vacancies are tractor driver, excavator operator, carpenter, rebar worker, and electric and gas welder.
