A snow sculpture festival is taking place in Gomel, which has transformed the city center near the circus into a true art venue. Three-meter art objects are being created from large blocks of snow before the eyes of passers-by, writes Times.by.

Belarusian sculptors participate in the work — members of the Union of Artists, lecturers and graduates of the Academy of Arts, as well as young masters.

Each form contains up to 5 tons of snow, but what impresses is not the volume, but the imagination of the authors: The Nutcracker, Umka the bear cub, the "Alenka" chocolate girl, a wise owl, and others — all ten images are recognizable and soulful.

Sculptors use saws, shovels, axes, and for the final finishing — even unconventional tools, such as a kitchen sponge with an abrasive coating.

Particularly impressive are the multi-level den with a bear and a squirrel, created by Yana Kanavalava, and the snow figures by Yury Biryn-Paulau and Laima Mironchyk, imbuing them with "sugar cube effect" details.

Ivan Artsimovich, chairman of the sculpture section of the Belarusian Union of Artists, creates the symbol of Gomel — a lynx, which attracts the attention of viewers and journalists. Experienced masters note that working with snow requires precision, as the material is delicate and heterogeneous.

All ten sculptures will be ready by Friday and, according to the participants, can be admired for at least a month.
