Police detained suspect in poisoning of preschoolers in Minsk region

"The suspect has been detained by police officers as part of a criminal case under Part 1 of Art. 336 of the Criminal Code of Belarus. Investigative actions are being carried out with him. Other victims are being identified. The product has been recalled and confiscated to prevent its further sale. A number of expert examinations have been appointed," the Investigative Committee's statement said.
The cause of the poisoning was named as violations of sanitary and epidemiological norms committed by an employee during the production of dairy products.
"During the verification measures, it was also established that similar violations are not systemic and are not widespread. No other similar violations have been recorded," the Investigative Committee stated.
It should be recalled that last week, on June 2 and 3, 30 children from 11 kindergartens sought medical attention at the Borisov hospital with nausea and vomiting. By Friday, all children had been discharged.
Another 13 children were affected in other settlements of the Minsk region.
On Monday, the Ministry of Health reported that the cause of the poisoning was the fermented milk drink "Bifidin" produced by "Biomolprom" LLC. Laboratory tests confirmed that the drink does not meet microbiological safety requirements. The enterprise's operations were suspended.
