Lithuanian customs officers detained goods with Armani, Hermes, Lacoste and Yves Saint Laurent labels, heading to Belarus
Employees of the Vilnius territorial customs, during an inspection of goods being transported in transit through Lithuania, detained a consignment of goods from Switzerland to Belarus. More than 170 units of presumably counterfeit goods were found in this consignment, writes Delfi.lt .
During a physical inspection, customs officers had reasonable suspicions of intellectual property rights infringement. Clothing and footwear — vests, T-shirts, and flip-flops — bearing the labels of world-renowned brands Armani, Hermes, Lacoste, and Yves Saint Laurent were found in the transit cargo.
In total, more than 170 units of goods were confiscated, with a declared value of approximately 900 euros.
Given the unusually low declared prices and other indicators, suspicion arose that the goods were not original.
The rights holders of the respective trademarks were informed about the confiscated goods. After receiving confirmation from them that the discovered products violated intellectual property rights, a decision was made to destroy these goods under customs control.
Customs officers note that counterfeit products can also be moved through countries with a high reputation.
"This case shows that counterfeit products are not necessarily transported only from regions considered less reliable. Even countries associated with high quality, originality, and reliability, such as Switzerland, can be part of the counterfeit product movement chain. Therefore, customs checks all transit shipments with the same vigilance – regardless of their origin or destination," the Customs Department stated.
