A high-ranking Iranian official responded by stating that Tehran would consider any attempt by the US to intervene in the situation in the Strait of Hormuz as a violation of the ceasefire regime.

In a post on the social network Truth Social, the American president stated that "countries from around the world" appealed to the US "with a request to help free their vessels in the Strait of Hormuz," writes the BBC.

In response, Washington promised that it would escort vessels from these countries and "safely lead them out of these restricted waters so that they could freely and effectively continue their activities."

The operation called Project Freedom will begin on Monday morning Middle Eastern time, specified the head of the White House.

He added that this is a humanitarian gesture on the part of the US and Middle Eastern countries, "but especially — Iran."

"My representatives are conducting very positive negotiations with Iran, and these discussions could lead to something very positive for everyone," also stated in Trump's post.

Shortly thereafter, a high-ranking Iranian official stated that Tehran would consider any attempt by the US to intervene in the situation in the Strait of Hormuz as a violation of the ceasefire regime.

"Any American intervention in the new maritime regime of the Strait of Hormuz will be considered a violation of the truce," wrote on X Ibrahim Azizi, head of the national security committee in the Iranian parliament.
