World Record for Longest Christmas Dessert Broken on Tenerife Island

On the Spanish island of Tenerife, in the town of Santiago del Teide, a Guinness World Record was set for the longest Christmas dessert in the world. They prepared turrón there — a traditional Spanish sweet similar to nougat, writes Tenerife Weekly.

A representative of Guinness World Records officially recorded the length of the delicacy after precise measurements and accounting for damaged fragments. As a result, it was confirmed that the turrón reached 1151.15 meters. If laid out in a straight line, this would be equivalent to the length of almost eleven football fields.

The organizers immediately planned to break the previous record, set in Italy, where the dessert's length was 1004 meters. To realize the idea, local confectioners, renowned masters from the town of Tacoronte, and dozens of volunteers united. The process of preparing the gigantic turrón took about eight hours.

According to chef Pablo Pastor, head of the Canarian Association of Chefs and Confectioners, the dessert used over a ton of gofio, hundreds of kilograms of honey, sugar, chocolate, almonds, and bananas.

In addition to attracting tourists, the organizers wanted to share the festive mood with people in need of support. After the record was set, the turrón was distributed to residents and guests of the city, and a significant portion was handed over to non-governmental organizations that participated in the preparation of the event.
