Tsikhanouskaya Wrote a Letter to the Lithuanian Prime Minister, but Received No Reply

At the end of last year, when it became clear that the police were taking over Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's security in Lithuania from the Leadership Security Service, Tsikhanouskaya wrote a letter to Prime Minister Inge Ruginene in search of a compromise, but received no reply, says Dzianis Kuchynski, today's head of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's office in Vilnius, writes Delfi.lt.

"We are grateful that the criminal police provide security, ensuring we can work in Vilnius, but until the very end of last year, we were looking for a compromise, exploring how we could manage if we fully remained in Vilnius. We sought this compromise, Tsikhanouskaya wrote a letter to the Prime Minister, but received no reply," said D. Kuchynski.

"We tried to meet, but somehow... on the other hand, from the side of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the President's Office, we had many meetings, we talked a lot, we looked at what and how could be done. From this side, one can say that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did everything it could — we have status, diplomatic support (...). From the side of the President's Office as well," he emphasized.

Since February, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya moved to Warsaw with part of her office, and Dzianis Kuchynski became the head of the mission in Vilnius.

On January 23, Inge Ruginene spoke quite critically about Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's departure.

"It's her personal decision — to decide what she chooses," said the head of government in an interview with Delfi.

"I see neither additional benefit nor loss. Our contacts with the Belarusian opposition are very strong, and not only with Sviatlana. The opposition is not just Sviatlana; it's many more people. I am glad that the last leaders who also participated in the presidential elections have been released. It seems to me that this is very important," emphasized Inge Ruginene.
