Musician Tim Suladze: A 30-year age gap is what aligns with my ideas about relationships

Tim Suladze stirred up social media with the story of his courtship of a classmate, 25 years his junior, and her ambiguous reaction.

The Belarusian trumpeter, currently studying at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, shared a romantic story from his student life on Threads — and asked commentators to explain to him what was happening.

In short, the 47-year-old musician liked a 22-year-old girl (she also studies at the music academy): "We played together several times, I invited her to dinner, gave her two gifts, for her birthday and for Christmas. She refused the second dinner invitation."

After some time, Tim honestly wrote to the girl that he liked her. She responded with a long text, the essence of which can be summarized as: "You're great, thanks for everything, but no."

Tim accepted the refusal and tried to forget the girl. But he notes: she watches all his stories, sometimes likes his posts.

And recently, the musician unexpectedly met the girl's mother. The woman admitted that she herself dissuaded her daughter from the second dinner — saying that she didn't want the man to think the girl was "a gold-digger."

Tim replied that he never thought that way, and that he truly liked the girl from the first sight. The mother clarified whether the musician had found another love, and intriguingly added that perhaps her daughter "would mature yet."

Now Tim cannot understand what all this means. The post went viral and garnered more than 800 comments in a day.

The most popular comment got as many as 2500 likes: "I need an explanatory brigade. How can a 47-year-old look at a 22-year-old child as a sexual object? That's your daughter!"

The opinion "The girl didn't develop feelings, which is not surprising given such an age difference. Mom is trying to "settle" her daughter into good hands and keeps you on reserve" was supported by 1600 people. Tim, however, argues with this statement: he believes that such a difference is normal for people of both genders.

Someone suggested that the man pay attention to the girl's mother (who is 59) — as it seems the musician interested her. But in this case, Tim is categorical: he says such a romance is impossible. By the way, his ex-wife was nine years younger than Tim.

At the same time, Tim promises in the comments that he will not do anything on his part to attract the girl's attention. If she takes any steps herself, then the man will think about it.

Continuing the discussion, Suladze published several examples of couples who inspire him. Among them are world-renowned 63-year-old jazz trumpeter and composer Wynton Marsalis and his 38-year-old wife Nicola Benedetti (she is a violinist, Grammy award winner). Two years ago, the couple, with a 25-year age difference, had a daughter. By the way, Wynton and Nicola met when she was only 17 years old — but at first, they were just friends.

Another example for Suladze is the 72-year-old Russian musician Andrei Makarevich and 42-year-old journalist Einat Klein. The artist's fourth wife gave birth to his child when Makarevich was 68 years old.

Tim writes: "A 30-year age gap. (...) The story of Andrei and Einat is what aligns with my ideas about relationships. This is exactly the kind of couple I want to create and will create sooner or later."
