Yakut Aleksey "Bear" Petrov went to fight 5000 km from home and returned in a wheelchair.

In Yakutia, 41-year-old Hero of Russia Aleksey Petrov, with the call sign "Bear", died. According to preliminary information, he felt unwell on the way to a friend — an ambulance was called, but they could not save the Yakut man.

Ukrainian communities are spreading information that his death is a Ukrainian special operation and that "Bear" was allegedly suffocated, but there is no confirmation of this yet.

In June 2024, Yakut Aleksey Petrov enlisted for the war 5000 kilometers from his home. During battles in Ukraine, he lost both legs, but received the title of Hero of Russia — in July 2025.

"Corporal Petrov stormed enemy positions, took part in the capture of settlements, personally destroyed several machine-gun strongholds, dozens of fighters and units of equipment," the obituary states.

Since he died at home, his relatives will not receive military posthumous payments. If he had died at the front, they would have paid up to $200,000. So Petrov's family will be paid $1300 per month for everyone — solely for his hero status.
