How many participants of the Great Patriotic War live in Belarus?

Over the year, their number has decreased by one and a half times.

As of April 1, 2026, 574 veterans of the Great Patriotic War live in Belarus. Of them — 269 participants and invalids of the war, 146 home front workers, and 156 people who survived the Siege of Leningrad.

It is worth noting, however, that according to Belarusian legislation, veterans of the Great Patriotic War also include those who participated "in the liquidation of the nationalist underground in the territory of Ukraine, Belarus, and the Baltic countries until the end of 1951".

A year ago, officials reported about 427 participants and invalids of the war, as well as "around 800 veterans".

All veterans will receive one-time financial assistance by May 9. Invalids and participants of the war will be given 5000 rubles each, other categories of veterans — 2500 rubles, and those affected by the consequences of the war — 1500 rubles.

Хаця б у двукоссе ўзялі б "Вялікай Айчыннай вайны", а не наўпрост паўтаралі савецкі прапагандысцкі тэрмін.
