Minsk plans to liquidate the National Centre for Contemporary Arts – a state cultural institution that has operated for over ten years and was one of the country's key contemporary art venues, writes Reform.news.

Initially, a message appeared on the institution's Instagram about the "last" Museums' Night event organized by the institution. Two sources from cultural circles confirmed to Reform.news that the center will continue its work only until autumn. After this, about 50 employees may lose their jobs.
Part of the institution's property will be redistributed: the NCCA funds and the venue on Yakub Kolas Street will be transferred to the National Art Museum, while the premises on Nekrasov Street will go to the Belarusian State Academy of Arts.
Unofficial comments suggest that the closure may be related to the redistribution of cultural spaces and the influence of the new head of the Union of Artists, Andrei Vasilevsky, as well as the interest of certain entities in the center's buildings and resources.
The National Centre for Contemporary Arts itself was established in 2015 by merging two previous institutions: Creative Workshops "Centre for Contemporary Arts" and the state institution "Museum of Modern Fine Arts". During its existence, it became an important platform for contemporary art in Belarus.
The Centre supported experimental projects in visual, theatrical, and musical arts, worked with young artists and curators, and participated in international projects, including organizing national pavilions for Belarus at the Venice Biennale and other major art events.
