In Minsk, doctors performed a unique operation: a patient received a transplant of his own bone along with blood vessels
At the Minsk Scientific and Practical Center for Surgery and Transplantology, in collaboration with doctors from the 6th hospital, a unique operation was performed following a severe leg injury.

Previously, the person suffered a severe thigh fracture that healed very poorly. This led to the development of a "false joint." The situation was complicated by the fact that a metal pin, previously inserted by doctors to support the skeleton, broke inside the leg, and the femoral bone itself became crooked, with part of its tissue simply dying off.

To save the patient's leg, a team of orthopedic surgeons and microsurgeons performed intricate repair work in several stages. First, the surgeons removed foreign elements, extracting pieces of the broken metal plate from the leg, which no longer served its function. Then came the most delicate moment of the operation: doctors sawed off a piece of the fibula (calf bone) from the same leg and used it for donation.
This fragment was cut out along with living blood vessels. In the final step, the obtained fragment was inserted into the thigh, and the vessels were stitched to the local bloodstream. Doctors give excellent prognoses that the patient will be able to return to a normal, fulfilling life and walk independently.
