Young Man Jailed for Humorous Banner

Even being unjustly sentenced to 15 days in Ivan Amielchanka doesn't give up positive mood.

Ivan Amielchanka, the much-talked-of banner reading “MUSOROK” was sentenced to 15 days in jail.

The video of Ivan holding this self made banner appeared after the Chernobyl Commemoration Rally on April 26, 2012. The rally — though the opposition one — was fully sanctioned by Minsk’s authorities and went off completely peaceful and non-violent. However, the representatives of the secret services and other law-enforcement agencies dressed as civilians were filming the rally.

The short video shows Mr. Amielchanka standing next to one of such persons with a small banner that reads “MUSOROK” — and offensive denomination of a police officer (like a cop or fuzz/fuzz man in English).

After the video got on the Web, Belarusian police started searching for Mr. Amielchanka, however unsuccessfully.

He, accompanied by his lawyer, went to a police station voluntary as, according to Mr. Amielchanka, was tired of police officers disturbing his relatives and friends while looking for him.

He spend a night in a remand prison and then was sentenced to 15 days in jail by judge Mikhail Khoma, reports spring96.org.

It is reported that during the court process Mr. Amielchanka claimed that the text on the banner was written in English and read “my cop ok,” with no offensive implications.
