Actor Ryan Gosling joins the Marvel universe

Actor Ryan Gosling will finally join the Marvel universe.

He will play Ghost Rider in the new movie. Shawn Levy will direct the film, and the release is scheduled for 2028, Variety reports.

Many remember Ghost Rider being played by Nicolas Cage, who starred as the flaming biker in two Sony films.

In the comics and the Ghost Rider film, the main character, biker Johnny Blaze, sells his soul to the devil to cure his father of cancer. As with any deal with the devil, his father is cured but still dies later. After this, Johnny becomes bound to a supernatural demon and gains the ability to transform into a flaming skeleton biker. He also possesses superhuman strength and can force a person to feel all the emotional pain they have caused others.

After the Sony films in 2007 and 2011, the rights to Ghost Rider reverted to Marvel Studios, which re-envisioned the character for the ABC television series "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."
