The Telegram messenger has been blocked in India until June 22 for the period of re-examination of medical entrance exams by applicants, according to India's national testing agency, which is responsible for conducting major entrance examinations for higher education institutions.
"This measure has been taken in the public interest in response to the organized use of the platform by fraudsters to deceive candidates taking the medical entrance exam on June 21," the agency said in a statement.
Initially, the exam was conducted in May, but its results were canceled due to a major scandal involving the leakage of examination materials.
The Indian government decided to restrict Telegram at the platform level only after other measures, including coordinated removals, failed to stop the spread of fake answers to exam questions.
The agency noted that no such materials exist outside the examination system, and promises to provide them are fraudulent.
