For the First Time in History, a Mother and Son Have Played in Football World Cups
In the match against Iran (2:2), 21-year-old New Zealand national team defender Tyler Bindon made his debut. His mother, Jenny Bindon, was a goalkeeper for the New Zealand women's national team and played in the 2007 and 2011 World Cups.

Tyler Bindon, a defender for Nottingham Forest, made his World Cup debut in a group stage match against Iran (2:2). The 21-year-old New Zealander entered the field at the end of the match, replacing Marko Stamenic in the 92nd minute.
Tyler's mother, Jenny Bindon, is a goalkeeper for the New Zealand women's national team, RBC writes.

She played 77 matches for the national team and represented the country at the 2007 World Cup in China and the 2011 World Cup in Germany. Jenny Bindon also participated in the Olympic Games in 2008 and 2012.
Tyler Bindon debuted for the New Zealand national team in 2023 and had played 25 matches for them by the time of the World Cup. At club level, he started in the Los Angeles FC academy, then played for Reading, and in 2026 moved to Nottingham Forest.
