On the Day of Airborne Forces (or Paratroopers’ Day) activists of Zmiena youth movement — already well known for their ‘plush protest rallies’ — held a new performance in support of imprisoned opposition activist.
They put teddy bears with solidarity banners in one of Minsk’s central fountains. The teddy bears demanded to immediately and unconditionally release Anton Surapin and Siarhiej Basharymau who were held over the ‘bear bombing’ performed by Swedish pilots on July 4. The slogans supporting another activist Eduard Lobau who was sentenced to 4 years’ imprisonment on the eve of presidential elections 2010 were also ‘voiced’ by the teddys.
