US and Germany stated that there will be no talks between Russia and Ukraine in the near future
The press service of US President Donald Trump and German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated on August 28 that Russia and Ukraine are not yet ready for peace negotiations.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emphasized that the parties have not reached a point that allows them to cease hostilities. She noted that US President Donald Trump wishes for an end to the war, but this requires the will of the leaders of Russia and Ukraine. Leavitt also stated that Trump is closely monitoring developments and will make an additional statement on this matter later.
A similar opinion was expressed almost simultaneously by German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz. He stated that a meeting between Putin and Zelenskyy, which was discussed after the American-Russian summit in Alaska, will not take place in the near future. Merz reminded that without proper preparation and mutual readiness of the parties for a serious dialogue, a meeting is impossible.
These statements came after Russian strikes on Kyiv on the night of August 27-28. Air raid sirens were declared twice in the city, fires and smog arose, and transport connections were partially interrupted. According to the latest data from the Kyiv Military Administration, 19 people died as a result of these strikes.
