In the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park, a wild Amur tigress has been spotted for the first time with five cubs. Normally, female tigers give birth to one to four cubs, making this case unique, reports IFLScience.

As experts from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) note, this is an "extraordinary phenomenon." According to Stuart Chapman, head of WWF's global tiger program, this is the first recorded instance in history where a mother with five cubs has been documented in China.
This tigress is approximately nine years old, and her offspring are six to eight months old. The footage was taken in November 2025 in the national park, which is the world's largest tiger reserve and a critically important habitat for Amur tigers, currently an endangered species.
The fact that six wild tigers were captured in a single frame testifies to the effectiveness of China's conservation efforts. The Chinese government and scientists have been working for many years to conserve this endangered species.
The appearance of this family is symbolic, as the number of Amur tigers in China is now increasing after a critically low level of 20 individuals in 2010. Approximately half of wild tiger cubs do not survive to two years of age, even in regions with sufficient food.
Today, Amur tigers constitute one of the largest tiger populations in the world, although in the 1930s this species was on the brink of extinction. The main part of the population lives in the Russian Far East.
