The US is close to an agreement with Ukraine on a peace plan, but has not yet achieved clear success in attracting Russian President Vladimir Putin to participate in the process, although he has not completely rejected it, the publication Axios comments on the night talks in the Kremlin with representatives of the US president.
According to the publication's sources, the main issue to be discussed at the trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi will be territorial control in eastern Ukraine.
The first meeting of the trilateral working group on security issues involving representatives of Russia, Ukraine, and the US will take place today in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, the Kremlin confirmed.
During the night, Russian Presidential Advisor Yuri Ushakov told reporters that the Kremlin insists on territorial concessions, which were discussed at the August meeting between Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska.
"The main thing confirmed again during these negotiations between our president and the Americans was that without resolving the territorial issue according to the formula agreed upon in Anchorage, one should not count on achieving a long-term settlement. As long as this is not done — Russia will continue to consistently pursue the goals set for the special military operation precisely on the battlefield," Ushakov said.
