Dangerous ammunition from World War II — mortar mines — was found near the village of Haidukouka, near Minsk. They were accidentally discovered by a local resident while walking his dog in a forest belt near the village, reports Pristalica.by.
The man noticed suspicious objects sticking out from under the roots of a fallen tree and reported it to specialists. Sappers arrived at the scene and confirmed that they were mines. Despite their age, such ammunition remains very dangerous and can explode even decades later.
After the dangerous objects were found, work was promptly organized to remove and neutralize them. Military specialists participated in the operation, which proceeded without incident, and the threat to residents was eliminated.
It is noted that similar finds are not uncommon: demining groups have been called out several times in the last year alone. Specialists emphasize that explosive objects do not have an "expiration date" and can remain dangerous even after many years.
Residents are advised: if you notice something resembling ammunition, under no circumstances should you touch the find; immediately report it to the appropriate services.
