The band "Ivanushki International" will become simply "Ivanushki" because "Anglicisms are annoying"

The famous Russian band "Ivanushki International" plans to partially change its name to comply with the new Russian law that restricts the use of English words in public spaces. This was reported by the band's artistic director Igor Matvienko in an interview with RBC.

According to Matvienko, the band decided to support the new rules and abandon the English word "International", which had been part of the collective's name for many years. He noted that in the official spelling, they plan to simply cross out or not use this word. Matvienko also expressed the opinion that there have been too many Anglicisms in the Russian language, so the idea of limiting their use is, in his opinion, correct.

“I want to cross out International because I absolutely agree that Anglicisms are annoying," Matvienko said.

The band "Ivanushki" was formed in the mid-1990s and has performed under the name "Ivanushki International" for a long time. Currently, the collective includes Andrey Grigoriev-Apollonov, Kirill Andreev, and Kirill Turichenko. The collective remains popular in Russia and other post-Soviet countries.

The reason for the name change was the law on the use of the Russian language in the public sphere, often referred to as the law on restricting Anglicisms. It was adopted in Russia on June 17, 2025. The main provisions came into effect on June 24 of the same year after official publication, while other norms entered into force on March 1, 2026. The law calls for the use of the Russian language in names, advertisements, and other public materials and restricts the excessive use of English words when there are appropriate Russian alternatives.

In this regard, some companies, brands, and creative collectives have begun to reconsider their names to comply with the new rules.

Правільна. Яшчэ на "дурачкі" замяніць, будзе арганічна.
А у глабальным сэнсе, у цэлях адмовы ад англіцызмаў, прапаную расейцам пачаць з перайменавання месяцаў. Потым яшчэ 1/3 лексікі перапрацаваць і не будзе англіцызмаў у іх мове.
