Around 5,000 hectares of suburban land to be allocated for future development in Minsk
Minsk plans further urban development at the expense of adjacent territories. According to the draft of the new general plan, by 2050, approximately 4.7 thousand hectares of land in the Minsk region will be needed to provide residents with housing (about 35 square meters per person). This was stated by Aliaksandr Akentsyeu, head of the general plan project development and chief architect of UP "Minskgraad".

These territories will be developed according to the model of so-called green wedges — preserving nature and agricultural lands around the capital. Plots for future development have already been reserved in Dzehtsiarouka, Shchomyslitsa, Senitsa, Yel'nitsa, Kalodzishchy, and Tsna.
At the same time, denser development is planned in the center of Minsk and along the main avenues. This is due to the fact that land in the city center is the most valuable, so efforts are made to use it as effectively as possible — for business, tourism, and urban infrastructure.
Part of the private housing in such zones may be demolished if necessary for the development of roads, communications, or other objects. However, mass demolitions, as was the case previously, are no longer expected — options for reconstruction with increased density are now also being considered.
It is also noted that metro construction will stimulate the development of new districts and attract investors, as it significantly increases land value.
Overall, the authorities, as stated, want to develop Minsk in a way that combines urban growth, economic efficiency, and environmental preservation.
