Yury Kachuk, a public and cultural figure, publisher, collector, artist, and local historian, died in Zelva. His death was reported by Uladzimir Khilmanovich on Facebook.

«Yurka Kachuk did a lot to honor the memory of Larysa Hienijus. Another sincere Belarusian patriot is gone. Eternal memory…», Khilmanovich wrote.
Yury Kachuk is known for writing and publishing the book «Mots Smaku» (The Power of Taste), which he dedicated to traditional Belarusian recipes, writes Hrodna.life.
The book included about 350 recipes, mainly from the western regions of Belarus, as well as Bialystok Region. The author cooked, tasted, and photographed each dish himself.
«We have lost a lot, a lot has been stolen, and we treat much of our own with sarcasm. And others will pick it up, and immediately it becomes a national or local value for them», Kachuk said.
Yury designed the publication himself. The book was printed by a Polish publishing house. To implement the project, Kachuk sold his apartment.
He also published the local history magazine «Bez» (Lilac), dedicated to the history of Zelva region, and defended the monument to Larysa Hienijus, which local authorities wanted to demolish.
Yury had a daughter, Yulia, who lived in Prague and was involved in art. In 2017, Yulia tragically died in the Czech Republic.
