Rosselkhoznadzor (Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance) did not allow a large batch of caviar and other seafood to be imported into Belarus. This was reported by the agency's press service.

From late November to December 22, Rosselkhoznadzor employees, together with the Smolensk customs, inspected five vehicles transporting caviar and seafood weighing over 400 kilograms in total. All vehicles had previously been detained en route to Belarus – they were trying to bypass official veterinary control points.
During the inspections, it was found that the carriers, who turned out to be Belarusian citizens, did not have the mandatory veterinary documents. These papers must confirm the origin of the products, as well as their quality and safety. In addition, there was no information about the processing of the relevant documents in the "Mercury" electronic system.

The agency noted that the products were transported with violations of sanitary norms: in the trunks and cargo compartments of vehicles not adapted for food transportation, without observing the necessary temperature regime.
As a result, more than 250 kilograms of caviar, as well as mussels, cod liver, crayfish, and other seafood, were returned to the senders. Those responsible for the violations were brought to administrative responsibility.
