New sculptures to be installed in Minsk's Gorky Park

One of the most popular recreation spots in the Belarusian capital is set to be refreshed and given a distinctive artistic atmosphere. The Culture Department of the Minsk City Executive Committee has invited participation in a creative competition to develop sketches for sculptures for the Maxim Gorky Central Children's Park.

Professional sculptors, architects, and creative collectives are invited to participate in the competition. According to its terms, the sculptural compositions must conform to the traditions of Belarusian decorative park sculpture, harmoniously blend with the surrounding architecture and landscape, and be proportionate to the park's space. When evaluating works, professional level, originality, and adherence to all competition requirements will be taken into account.

The competition will run from January 26 to February 27, 2026. Applications and necessary documents must be submitted to the Culture Department by February 9. The sketch projects themselves will be accepted until February 20 at the Museum of the History of Minsk. Details can be found on the official website of the Minsk City Executive Committee.

In the spring of 2025, a large-scale reconstruction of Gorky Park was completed. New recreation areas appeared, attractions and engineering networks were updated, and modern pavilions in a unified style were installed along the main avenues and on the embankment, replacing old kiosks.

The park was founded in 1805 by Minsk Governor Zakhar Korneev and was initially called the Governor's Garden. Today, it covers about 28 hectares and remains one of the largest and most visited parks in Belarus.
