In the Myadzel Region, a Man Collected Herbs and Led a Healthy Lifestyle. He Died After Eating the Root of a Poisonous Plant
A tragic incident occurred in the Myadzel district at the end of May. A 37-year-old man died from poisoning. He added the root of water hemlock (Cicuta virosa) to his food.

The man led a healthy lifestyle and was fond of collecting medicinal herbs. While walking along the river, an unknown plant caught his attention. He dug it up, noticed the sweetish smell of the root, and decided to add it to a salad. His wife and her relatives refused to taste the unusual dish, so the man ate it alone.
An hour later, he felt unwell: nausea appeared and convulsions began. Relatives called an ambulance, but medics could only confirm his death.
Forensic medical experts established that the cause of death was acute poisoning by a potent plant poison contained in hemlock — one of the most dangerous plants in the region. The man was sober.
