Latvia is suspending regular bus services to Belarus and Russia. Details are reported by Infotrans Media Belarus.
Instead of a direct travel ban, the country's authorities decided not to extend transport licenses. This means that as soon as the licenses expire, bus routes will be closed.
Earlier, the Ministry of Transport of Latvia instructed the Road Transport Directorate to prepare a legal justification for this measure. Currently, regular bus services to Belarus are operated by Latlines and Dautrans.
Dautrans' license for the route to Vitebsk expires on January 31, 2026. Latlines' license for the route to Minsk will expire on February 26, and the route to Gomel, which passes through Polotsk, Vitebsk, Orsha, and Mogilev, will cease to exist on June 27 of this year.
From November 1, 2025, to October 31, 2026, Latvia has introduced restrictions on international irregular bus services to Russia and Belarus. These restrictions apply to all carriers, regardless of their transport's country of registration.
