The President of Ukraine commented on Putin's response to his letter about ending the war.

«Unfortunately, the Russian side again chooses war — everyone heard this answer today. A weak answer. He simply does not want to end the war. I think many in the world were disappointed by this answer. He does not want to change anything and does not want to admit that his war is only liked by him and those who profit from it — they were all very smiling today. This means that Russia should have less money, and the pressure on Russia should increase. I thank everyone who helps us! I thank everyone who is with Ukraine, who wants true peace», — reported Volodymyr Zelenskyy on his Telegram channel.
On Thursday, June 4, the President of Ukraine wrote an open letter to Putin, in which he called for negotiations to end the war.
«The choice is now yours. Enough war. Ukraine proposes to end this war. This must be done honestly, with dignity, and guarantee that there will be no new escalation of the war.
We see that the United States is giving all its attention to the issue of Iran, and it is wrong to simply wait until it is their turn to focus on the war in Europe. Ukraine proposes to end the war in a format between us and you. I propose a meeting to you,» he wrote.
During his speech at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Vladimir Putin commented on Zelenskyy's message.
Moreover, he spoke about the letter with emphasized contempt. As if, «Peskov showed me Zelenskyy's letter yesterday, I looked at this piece of paper in the morning.»
Putin responded negatively to the proposal of a personal meeting with Zelenskyy. According to him, Ukraine seeks to stop the Russian offensive, while Russia is interested in long-term agreements, not a temporary ceasefire.
Putin also expressed incomprehension as to why Kyiv does not want to see Donald Trump's administration as a guarantor of possible future agreements. At the same time, he thanked Trump for his efforts to correct Zelenskyy's «manners» and added that work in this direction is not yet complete.
In turn, Emmanuel Macron noted that Zelenskyy's letter would help achieve a peaceful settlement. «I think this is a good initiative, and it's good that negotiations can resume,» said the French President.
Meanwhile, Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas noted that it is naive to expect Putin to simply give up and withdraw.
Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine began on February 24, 2022; since then, more than four years and three months, or 1564 days, have passed.
The First World War lasted 1567 days.
