Crab native to West African waters found in Tsnyanskoye Reservoir
An unusual "vacationer" was spotted on the beach of Tsnyanskoye Reservoir in Minsk. Photos and videos were published by the nedvizhka_minsk account, writes Blizko.by.
A real crab was wandering on the sand near the reservoir.
Moreover, it was a rainbow crab, which in the wild is found on the coast of West Africa — along the Atlantic Ocean from Senegal to Angola. In their natural habitat, these terrestrial crustaceans live in mangrove thickets and coastal areas, where they dig deep (up to 1-2 meters) burrows in moist soil.
In the comments to the post, users rightly noted that, most likely, the crab was purchased in a pet store, but the owner could not provide it with proper living conditions and simply released it into the reservoir.
It is worth noting that in fresh water, such a crab can only live if its hardness is about 179 milligrams of salts per liter of water. In Tsnyanskoye Reservoir, this indicator is only 3-4 milligrams of salts per liter, which can be dangerous for the life of the crustacean.
