A mother from Smolevichi reported on social media that a girl fell into an open manhole, and her friend, who rushed to help, fell into an adjacent manhole, writes the publication Smolevichi-24.by.
Fortunately, the children only suffered from fear, wet clothes, and lost shoes. By the time their parents arrived at the scene, the girls had managed to get out of the manholes on their own.
The water utility explained that after heavy snowfall, municipal machinery was clearing roads, and in the process, some manholes were displaced or torn off. The organization is now working on their restoration.
At the same time, utility workers urge caution:
- watch your step, especially in the dark, during snowfall or icy conditions, as an open manhole might go unnoticed;
- be careful on the road and near the edge of the carriageway to avoid falling into an unsecured manhole;
- if you notice an open or loosely covered manhole, report it by calling 115.
