Near the Mound of Glory, a cafe in the style of the stagnation era opened PHOTOS
Near the Mound of Glory in the Smolevichi district, after a large-scale reconstruction, the cafe "Lya Kurgana" (Near the Mound) opened, decorated in the style of the 1960s-1970s. The opening was timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the start of construction of the memorial complex, reports "Minskaya Prauda".

The previous cafe here was small and outdated, so its modernization began in October 2025. It was planned to complete the work by the end of July 2026, but the builders managed earlier. The first visitors were able to appreciate the renovated facility on June 25.

Now the cafe can accommodate up to 120 people simultaneously. Inside there is a spacious dining hall, a banquet hall for official meetings, a bar area, and an open terrace. The total area of the building is about 500 square meters. Large panoramic windows offer a view of the memorial.

The main idea of the project is to transport guests to the atmosphere of the time when the Mound of Glory itself was created. The interior features furniture and lamps in the style of the Soviet 1970s. The main decorative element is an eight-meter mosaic depicting the Order of the Patriotic War, similar to the one located at the base of the memorial.

The walls are decorated with paintings dedicated to the history of the Mound of Glory. They depict the construction of the memorial, its opening, as well as visits by famous guests, including Cuban communist leader Fidel Castro, artist Mikhail Savitsky, and leaders of Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine.

Separately, the story of Castro's visit is recalled; after climbing to the top of the mound in the rain, he descended not by the stairs, but simply down the steep slope.

The menu is also maintained in a Soviet style. Visitors are offered "Ministerial" salad, the Soviet version of "Olivier," "Sovminovskaya" cutlet, and the dessert "Warm Memory."

Prices remain affordable: most hot dishes cost from 10 to 20 rubles, and signature dishes are around 30 rubles.

To create a complete atmosphere of the era, even the waiters' uniforms and musical accompaniment were styled accordingly.

The cafe "Lya Kurgana" will be open daily from 10:00 to 22:00, except on Mondays.
