«Our culture is precisely what makes us Belarusians. The songs our grandmother sang, the fairy tales we were read before bed, the myths passed down by word of mouth, and, of course, our national costumes. Vyshyvanka is our cultural code. Every line of hand embroidery carries the memory and stories of our ancestors. When we wear it, we show everyone around us: we know who we are, and we are proud of it.
Just as a vyshyvanka pattern is created line by line, so our history is written. Make one mistake in a stitch – and the whole pattern changes. The same goes for culture: lose one piece, one tradition – and it will be difficult to recognize yourself. Cherish and value what is yours, because it is precisely what makes us one people," wrote Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya.
