The incident occurred in the agro-town of Karouchyna, Drybin district. An 11-year-old boy was going fishing with an unfolded fishing rod and accidentally touched power line wires with it, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reports .

As a result, the child was electrocuted. The boy was hospitalized with thermal burns.
Rescuers note that modern carbon fiber fishing rods can conduct electricity, so even too close an approach to wires (without direct contact) can be dangerous. The situation is especially risky near water and in high humidity.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations reminds that fishing near power lines is prohibited, and fishing tackle should only be carried under wires in a folded state or parallel to the ground.
