Cape Verde allowed Argentina to advance to the next round only in extra time

In the 1/16 final match between Argentina and Cape Verde at the World Cup, an upset almost happened. The world champions advanced to the next round only in extra time.
Lionel Messi opened the scoring in the 29th minute. The great Argentine has now scored 20 goals in World Cups and his seventh in this tournament.
In the 59th minute, Deroy Duarte equalized – extra time.
Just three minutes into extra time, Lisandro Martínez put Argentina ahead, Sydney Lopes Cabral equalized, but an own goal by opponent Deroy Borges in the 111th minute sent Argentina into the 1/8 finals.
Cape Verde did not win a single match at the World Cup (the African team had three draws in the group stage), but they became everyone's darlings.
Argentina will play Egypt in the 1/8 finals.
