An Olympic sport that was in the program for a hundred years has been excluded
The International Olympic Committee has approved the program for the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in 2030, which will take place in the French Alps. Nordic combined – a sport that has been an immutable part of the program since the very first Winter Olympics in 1924, also in Chamonix, France – has been excluded from it.

The 2030 Olympics will be the first in history where both men and women will participate in all sports. A total of 126 sets of medals are planned to be awarded: 56 for women, 55 for men, and 15 in mixed disciplines.
Freeride (skiing or snowboarding off-piste) and synchronized figure skating will be added to the program of the new games.
At the same time, Nordic combined (a combination of ski jumping and cross-country skiing) will lose its status as an Olympic sport. At the 2026 Olympics, it remained the only discipline where only men participated.
Nordic combined has been part of the program of all Winter Olympics since the first Games in 1924 in Chamonix, France. At the 2026 Olympics, three sets of awards were contested in this sport.
The 2030 Winter Olympic Games will take place in the French Alps from February 1 to 17.
