Udovikov, Fired Yesterday, Appointed Deputy Prosecutor General of Belarus
Prosecutor General Dmitry Gora officially introduced Sergei Udovikov to the staff of the Prosecutor General's Office.

The appointment occurred after Udovikov's dismissal from his previous place of work — the day before he was dismissed from service in the Investigative Committee by agreement of the parties.
Prior to this transfer, Sergei Udovikov headed the Investigative Committee department for the Minsk region. He was dismissed from service in the Investigative Committee with the right to wear the established uniform and insignia.
Before becoming the head of the Investigative Committee department for the Minsk region in April 2024, Sergei Udovikov headed a similar department in the Gomel region.
It was under his leadership of the department that an investigation was conducted into the fact of the death on August 11, 2020, during the post-election protests, of Gomel resident Alexander Vikhor.
At that time, the initiation of a criminal case regarding the death of 25-year-old Vikhor was denied. Sergei Udovikov then stated that the protester's death allegedly had no criminal character. According to him, law enforcement officers used physical force "justifiably," and the cause of death was a sudden exacerbation of a cardiovascular disease. Fractures of the ribs and sternum, as Udovikov claimed, allegedly resulted from resuscitation efforts.
Dmitry Gora himself headed the same Investigative Committee before moving to the Prosecutor General's Office. Therefore, Sergei Udovikov's appointment appears to be a strengthening of the department with people familiar to him.
