"They refused to open a case regarding Sasha's death." The investigation into the case of Alyaksandr Vikhor from Homiel, who died during the protests, has been completed
The Investigative Committee has completed its investigation into the death of Homiel resident Alyaksandr Vikhor during the protests, Tut.by reports , citing ONT.

The head of the Investigative Committee of Belarus for the Homiel region, Siarhiej Udovikaŭ, stated that on the evening of August 9, the young man participated in unauthorized mass events on Lenin Square in Homiel.
"He was detained there. He tried to break free, so police officers lawfully used physical force. He was then taken to the Railway District Department of Internal Affairs, then to the temporary detention center, where he did not complain about his health," ONT quotes the security official.
— During an examination by a paramedic at the pre-trial detention center, signs of mental disorder were detected, in connection with which the young man was taken to a psychiatric hospital. In the hospital, the young man's condition sharply worsened, police officers called an ambulance, which took him to the nearest medical institution with a resuscitation department. Despite the doctors' efforts, Alyaksandr Vikhor died on August 12 at 3:35 AM.
According to the conclusions of the primary and additional comprehensive commission forensic medical examinations, Alyaksandr Vikhor's death occurred as a result of acute circulatory failure, which developed due to cardiovascular diseases.
Indirect rib fractures and sternum fractures were found on the body, which occurred during resuscitation measures — indirect heart massage.
No alcohol, narcotics, or psychotropic substances were found in the body.
According to the expert commission's conclusions, the mental disorder masked the clinical manifestations of his cardiovascular diseases. It was precisely established that the need for emergency medical care arose during his examination by a psychiatrist-narcologist.
— The commission included the most qualified experts from the State Committee of Forensic Examinations and doctors with practice in cardiology, psychiatry, narcology, and therapy, who hold academic degrees and have work experience ranging from 10 to 46 years. There is no reason to distrust the experts' conclusions, — says the head of the regional Investigative Committee.
During the investigation, the head of the regional Investigative Committee reports, it was established that Alyaksandr Vikhor's death was caused by cardiovascular diseases, which suddenly worsened.
The Investigative Committee says that Alyaksandr Vikhor's cardiovascular disease was first diagnosed in 2017 during a medical examination for military enlistment. Based on its results, the young man was deemed unfit for military service due to illness and was enrolled in the reserve. In June last year, the medical commission again deemed him unfit for military service due to illness.
Alyaksandr's deceased family also learned about the completion of the investigation today.
— About 40 minutes ago, the investigator called and informed us that we were denied the initiation of a criminal case regarding his death. He said that we would be acquainted with the results of the investigation, but not now — we need to come to the Investigative Committee on Monday. Honestly, we are still in shock and confusion, — says Volha, Alyaksandr's sister.
We remind that 25-year-old Alyaksandr Vikhor was detained on the evening of August 9 on Sovetskaya Street in Homiel; according to his relatives, he was on his way to his girlfriend's place. The family searched for their son for three days: they called and went to the District Department of Internal Affairs, waited until night at the pre-trial detention center and temporary detention facility. It was only when the relatives came to the police on August 12 to file a missing person report that they learned: Sasha had been dead since August 11.

On the same day, the Investigative Committee presented its version of what happened. Allegedly, Alyaksandr Vikhor was detained by police officers for active participation in an unauthorized mass event. By court order, he was brought to administrative responsibility in the form of arrest for 10 days. The man was sent to the place of punishment, where his condition sharply worsened. The Homiel resident was taken to the hospital, where he died. "During the initial examination, no visible bodily injuries that could have caused death were found," the Investigative Committee said.
A day later, the investigator informed the relatives that Sasha had died of a drug overdose. However, later, after media publicity, this version was abandoned, and the investigator in the case was changed, according to the relatives.
The Vikhory family repeatedly appealed to the prosecutor's office with a request to initiate a criminal case against police officers for unlawful actions against their son. The investigation into his death was continuously extended.
To reconstruct the sequence of events, the relatives themselves sought witnesses — other detainees who were with Alyaksandr in the last days and hours of his life. And they were found and told what they saw. But they all lost contact with Sasha around 10 PM on August 11. At two in the morning, the guy was taken to the hospital. Around four in the morning, he died.
