The French President left the hotel shortly before the explosions.

Two explosions occurred in the Syrian capital Damascus near the elite Four Seasons hotel, where French President Emmanuel Macron was staying.
According to available information, one of the bombs was in a garbage bin, and the other was in a car on the road near the hotel.
The explosions occurred literally minutes after the French leader's motorcade left the hotel premises and headed to the presidential palace. The entire street was instantly covered in thick smoke, and one of the cars burst into flames. Macron himself was already safe at that moment and was conducting official negotiations with Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa.
This visit by Emmanuel Macron was the first trip by an EU country leader to Syria since the long-standing regime of Bashar al-Assad was overthrown.
