Early in the match, the Swiss opened the scoring after a quick attack: Yann Manzambi broke through on the left flank and delivered a cross, which Breel Embolo converted with a one-touch finish.
Algeria tried to possess the ball more and play actively, but faced an organized opponent's defense and created almost no dangerous chances.
In the second half, Switzerland doubled their lead. After high pressing and confusion near the penalty area, Dan Ndoye received the ball and shot accurately, making the score 2:0.
After this, the Algerians had to open up, but the Swiss defense played very reliably and did not allow a real chance for a comeback. Several attempts at long-range shots and crosses yielded no result.
The match could have ended with an even larger score, but the Swiss failed to convert another scoring opportunity at the end of the match.
As a result, Switzerland confidently advances to the Round of 16 of World Cup 2026, while Algeria concludes its participation in the tournament. Switzerland's opponent in the next stage will be the winner of the Colombia — Ghana pairing. The match between these teams will take place on Saturday morning, Belarusian time, at the stadium in Kansas City.
