The ceremony of laying flowers and wreaths at the Mound of Glory on July 3 took place without Alexander Lukashenka, who had only returned from Myanmar during the night. A year ago, he personally participated in it with his sons, Reform.news noted.
A wreath was laid at the Mound of Glory on his behalf. Flowers were laid by the highest officials of Belarus. State Secretary of the Security Council Alexander Volkovich addressed those present. Yesterday, at the solemn meeting dedicated to Independence Day, Prime Minister Alexander Turchin gave a speech.

Volkovich called the Mound of Glory a symbol of liberation from fascism. He recalled the main milestones of the Second World War on the territory of the country.
"Speaking about the past and the present, we inevitably think about the future. And the future of Belarus is our youth. The youth that I see today near the Mound of Glory, they carry the baton of memory that our grandfathers and great-grandfathers passed on to us," he continued.

Volkovich emphasized that today Belarus is a country that actively participates in the international agenda. Its position is heard on the platforms of the SCO and CIS, in dialogue with partners in Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
"The visit of our head of state, which has just recently concluded, to the countries of Southeast Asia, is a vivid confirmation of this.
Belarusian universities annually accept hundreds of foreign students who return home and tell the truth about our state," he said.
The State Secretary of the Security Council also noted the complex situation around Belarus, but, according to him, the country is under the control of the security bloc.
"The international situation is exacerbated to the limit. You see what is happening near our borders. Despite this, we control the situation. The country is under the reliable protection of the security bloc.
At the same time, independence requires unity and shared responsibility for the fate of our state. Belarusians paid for their current well-being with the lives of an entire generation.
We are obliged to protect what we have today. Protect peace. It is fragile. Protect the family, it is the foundation. Protect the country, it is ours. As the head of state says, there is no other and there will be no other. We ourselves determine our future. We are descendants of victors, and we must be worthy of this title," he concluded.
